The only way to obtain a better supply chain is to make better decisions. This starts by answering:1. What metrics do you want to improve (including base metrics and risk measures).2. What are the types of decisions (and who makes them).3. What are the sources of uncertainty. Then, to make better decisions you have to design the best policies, which come from the four classes of policies. So many discussions of supply chain management is little more than unstructured chatter… basically entertainment.

Thanks to our partners at Avenue Shops for sharing their story with the market. They'll also be presenting at Modex on Tuesday March 12th on the behind the scenes details around their automation adoption and introduction. I know we at Hai put out a lot of content, but I'd highly encourage folks to give this one a listen. Some time stamps for your consideration with my thoughts bracketed behind: 8:54: Hunter says "Has everything been perfect? No, not necessarily and it's not always perfect." [Any manufacturer or integrator in the space that promises flawless implementation is selling a dream. There are always hurdles, there is always a 'make it work' element. Understanding that early is key to success.] 10:10 Adam says "Robotics is a different beast." [This is the right mindset. The value shown on paper throughout the consultation and design will absolutely come to fruition. But it takes effort and commitment.]11:57 Adam says "There might be some additional requirements, in our case there was for fire suppression." [Material handling/automation companies aren't fire experts, but it's critical we support our customers in these conversations. This topic can't be swept under the rug covered by an assumption in a proposal. Address it, come up with a plan and budget, and execute.]13:17 Glen says "It was quite the process to operate while installation was under way." [In my opinion, Brownfield installs are 3-4x more complex than Greenfield. There's limited space, human beings in the area, and operations that need to be considered.]15:28 Glen says "be prepared for the impact." [It's so crucial that customers and providers step away from the design, engineering, schedule, financials, and just discuss change management as a concept.] 17:40 Hunter says "sometimes I have to catch myself and my team, sometimes we can sell a flip of the switch." [We get excited too! It's not malicious or ill intended, but even industry experts can get blind sighted by the sheer awesomeness of advanced automation. It's important to build a culture of realism, accountability and transparency in the sales process.]26:14 Adam says "we'd go back and do at least one, maybe two site visits." [I can't recommend this enough. It helps validate or disqualify potential partners, but also provides a much better view point of what adopting automation really means than you can learn in a sales pitch or demo.]SMBs to Fortune 50s can learn a lot from this conversation in my opinion. Few things add more to an AP solution than customization.For example: selecting for vendor signing approval based on deal size…Or being able to adjust payment visibility on a vendor-by-vendor basis…Or creating custom approval workflows for each vendor… Or determining who gets visibility to what data.This is something we really prioritize at CloudX Inc: Because no two employees or two vendors are the same, you need a payment process that flexes with this reality.
